Pest Control Training and Assessment

Safeguard Pest Management Training provides two main options for Training and Assessment:

Full Training and Assessment

  • Full Training and Assessment (Face to Face)

  • Full Training and Assessment by Correspondence

Recognition of Prior Learning

  • RPL / Recognition of Current Competency

  • National Recognition / Credit Transfer

Full Training and Assessment (Face to Face)

Courses offered are for five days and include practical experience and written documents. Students are expected to gain practical experience by working on the job with a pest management company and attending workshops by Safeguard Pest Management Training. Practical experience can be assessed by:

  • Previously worked in the industry with a licensed pest company. A logbook will be required that has been signed off by a licensed pest control supervisor. The logbook will need to show evidence of at least one week's work and may be used as evidence with more than one employer.

  • Participate in a two-day practical experience workshop with Safeguard Pest Management Training. This option is available for those students who are unable to find work with a licensed pest management technician. Please contact us for information and fees.

Full Training and Assessment by Correspondence

The Correspondence/Distance learning pathway is where a full complement of training and assessment resources are sent out to you. These usually need to be completed prior to a formal assessment. In most cases you will need to make arrangements to meet with one of our assessors, which may also involve the need to travel (at your expense) to a main centre to complete your assessment. You will also need to satisfy the practical experience as above.

  • *Please note that as a correspondence student, you will still need to attend a formal final assessment with one of our assessors. This is in addition to your practical experience in the field with a licensed technician or attendance at our practical experience workshops. Revision information is provided to each student prior to the final assessment. A final assessment may also be suitably included, to bridge gaps in learning for those students who require assistance in the other modes of delivery, such as Face to Face or RPL/RCC.

2a. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL/RCC)

Students who consider they already possess the competencies identified, in all, or part of any course/qualification offered by Safeguard Pest Management Training, may seek recognition. RPL is a method of assessing if you have evidence of competency for a particular unit of competency that you are enrolled in. It is important to remember that RPL is an assessment process not an assumption of competence.

RPL is the determination, on an individual basis, of the competencies obtained by a student through previous formal training, work experience, and/or life experience. RPL therefore determines the consequent advanced standing to which the student is entitled in relation to a course/qualification. The main focus of RPL is what has been learned rather than how, where or when it was learned. RPL focuses on both the demonstration of competence and the currency of that competence to industry standards. Students wishing to undertake RPL should contact our office to obtain an application form.

2b. National Recognition (Credit Transfer)

Safeguard Pest Management Training is committed to recognising the AQF qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). National recognition comes into effect when a Statement of Attainment or qualification provided by a student has the same national competency codes as those that form part of the training and assessment program within which the student is enrolled or is intending to enrol. Students are required to formally apply for National Recognition. Students wishing to apply for National Recognition should contact our office to obtain an application form.
